Films

The unique film collection of CINEMATEK, one of the most important in the world, today consists of about 180,000 copies of about 72,000 different titles: fiction films, documentaries, feature films, newsreels, short films, ... in both analogue and digital form. The collection consists of international and Belgian titles and grows every year by an average of 2,000 copies.

Film related

CINEMATEK also aims to collect as much documentation (photos, posters, and documents) about cinema and to ensure that these documents are consulted. Find out more about our Film Related collections.

Objects

History of Film in 9 objects at CINEMATEK

In addition to the film and film related collections, CINEMATEK also has a collection of important pre-cinema objects and cinematographic objects, such as magic lanterns and cameras. A part of this collection is shown in the Wunderkammer.

Belgian Film

Information about film can be found everywhere.

Books, magazines and web pages were written there, also about Belgian cinema. Yet it is sometimes difficult to see the trees through the forest. One focuses strictly on topicality and promotion, the other on appreciation and criticism, still others on specific actors, authors or genres.
