Information about film can be found everywhere. Books, magazines and web pages were written there, also about Belgian cinema. Yet it is sometimes difficult to see the trees through the forest. One focuses strictly on topicality and promotion, the other on appreciation and criticism, still others on specific actors, authors or genres.

BE Film Database

What is missing - certainly now that the only comprehensive reference work on Belgian film is more than twenty years old - is an overview, a gathering place for those who need reliable and up-to-date data about our curiosity or for study or research purposes. national film production from 1896 to present. Be Film will be that place, with a database of Belgian cinema at its beating heart. Soon you will be able to find a database containing the contents of the seminal encyclopedia “Belgian Cinema”, the aforementioned reference work, including all Belgian full-length films and a situational description of most of the productions.

This will be completed in phases with short films, images and all kinds of documentation. Be Film is by definition a work-in-progress, supported by the daily follow-up of our Film and Film Related departments, which have been collecting, updating, checking, correcting and completing data for many years, but also enriching it through projects and partnerships with specific focus. The intended result is going to be a useful tool for both professionals and an interested broad audience, but above all a broad gateway to an encyclopedia of more than a century of Belgian audiovisual imagination.
