Lezingen, inleidingen, workshops... – Pierre Loti
Using a number of restored short films, EYE Film Museum researcher and programmer Elif Rongen Kaynakçi illustrates the places that the most famous French travel writer visited or imagined.
The film program is meant to evoke the universe of Loti, through films that were shot during his lifetime, touching upon the many places to which he travelled, and echoing his formative times at military school and with close friends.

The lecture is illustrated with many photographs from Loti's life providing a chronology to his achievements and serves to connect the dots between him and the archival footage selected from Eye Filmmuseum's collection.

The film program is meant to evoke the universe of Loti, through films that were shot during his lifetime, touching upon the many places to which he travelled, and echoing his formative times at military school and with close friends. It also contains some short fiction films with settings and stories similar to Loti’s own fictional writings. Despite many of his novels having been adapted to the cinema even during his lifetime, and his eagerness to have himself photographed, often in exotic costume, no film footage of Loti is known to exist.
